7th ITechLaw International Conference: TFA Award to Trilegal Associate

The ITechLaw – International Asian Conference held a two day seminar on educating lawyers about the unique legal issues arising from the evolution, production, marketing, acquisition and use of information and communications technology. The conference held its 7th edition recently in Bangalore, between February 3rd to 4th, 2011 and was attended by over 300 international and domestic lawyers.

 

The keynote address was delivered by Lokayukta Justice N. Santosh Hegde. Justice Hegde spoke about the single window administration followed in India, which leads to corruption. Justice Hegde said, “Value based politics and governance was the need of the hour. I appeal to the lawyers to admit corruption cases on moral grounds and do their bit to the society. For over 60 years we have allowed corruption to grow, but now it has to stop”.

 

The conference focused on the latest issues in regulatory, corporate, commercial and tax law being faced by IT, ITES, emerging and growth industries in India, Asia, US and Europe, including issues relating to the telecom Industry, patents, open source and software development, UID, banking, new media entertainment and semiconductors.

 

The Travelling Fellowship Award (TFA) was awarded to Associate Nikhil Narendran from Trilegal, Bangalore. The award gives Nikhil the opportunity to travel and work with several prestigious law firms in Europe and possibly in the USA.

 

Speaking on the conference President of ITechLaw Sandra Jeskie said, “Bangalore is home to many prominent India-based information technology leaders, as well as other global companies that have established corporate, manufacturing, research and development operations in this rapidly growing city. Bangalore is an especially fitting location for one of India's most prestigious conferences among information technology law professionals”.

 

The conference introduced emerging areas of law and practice and also provided opportunities for networking with regulators, judges and lawyers from India, as well as from the rest of Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, North America and South America.

 

The event opened on February 2, 2011 with an ‘Art Reception’ showcasing young Indian artists, of which part of the proceeds from the art show were donated to charity.

 

ITechLaw is a not-for-profit organization established for the exchange of ideas and in-depth examination of information technology and telecommunications law issues. The conference was organized by Partner Sajai Singh, J. Sagar Associates; Sandra Jeskie, Duane Morris LLP (USA) and President ITechLaw; Dr. Ursula Widmer, Dr. Widmer & Partners (Switzerland) and Rajiv Patel, Fenwick & West (USA).
