Citing a “need to come back” as the primary reason for returning to India, Bedi said that the decision to join JSA was based on the quality of the firm's project practice, something which Bedi wants to expand in the coming years.
When asked about her future plans, Bedi says that, for her, there is a tremendous amount of “untapped potential” in the mining field in India. Even though there is a lot to be done in terms of regulations etc, this is one field which holds much potential in the coming years she tells Bar & Bench. While at Mayer Brown, Bedi had prepared a report on the legal issues regarding financing of mining projects in Eritrea.
Bedi also hopes to work on some pro-bono initiatives, something which kept her occupied at Mayer Brown. At the London firm, Bedi had been involved with the documentation for a charitable foundation which provided funds to Indian micro-finance organisations and Bedi hopes to start something similar in India as well.
JSA Founding Partner, Jyoti Sagar said that Bedi is a “valuable addition” to the firm and would add value to the firm's Projects practice.
