Former Amarchand lawyer Rishi Anand starts up full service law firm GNARUS Partners 5 lawyer team operating from Delhi

Former Amarchand Senior Associate, Rishi Anand has set up a full service law firm called GNARUS Partners with a team of 5 lawyers including him. The firm has been operational since December 15, 2012. The office is located in C.R. Park area in South Delhi.

Former Amarchand Senior Associate, Rishi Anand has set up a full service law firm called GNARUS Partners with a team of 5 lawyers including him. The firm has been operational since December 15, 2012. The office is located in C.R. Park area in South Delhi.

Rishi resigned from Amarchand Mangaldas on November 17, 2012 to set up his own firm GNARUS (pronounced as Narus), which is a Latin term meaning ‘skilfull’ or ‘having knowledge of a particular subject’. Speaking to Bar & Bench, Rishi said, “The idea is not to create a individualistic firm but to create an institution. I’m always looking forward to join hands with like minded productive people and the target is to build up a team of 10 fee earners by the end of 2013".

Rishi has more than five years of experience working with both Indian and International law firms. He specializes in corporate M&A and private equity.

The team includes another lawyer with seven years of experience in commercial litigation and arbitration. Rishi will also advise clients in regulatory space apart from M&A and private equity.

Rishi started his career with Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan after graduating from Symbiosis in 2007. He worked with them for a year and then went on to do his LLM from NUS, Singapore. Thereafter, he worked with Chinese Law Firm Dacheng Law Offices. He worked with them for little less than two years before moving to Rodyk & Davidson, where he worked for a year before moving back to India and joining Amarchand Mangaldas in 2011.

Talking about his decision to set up his own firm, Rish said, “I always wanted to set up my own law firm. That was the plan and that’s why I worked with both Indian and foreign law firms to get the right exposure”.

“I already have a couple of retainers and I have started advising clients. The clients are very receptive and they are very open to hiring start up law firms”, added Rishi.

Congrats Rishi. India needs more of these start-ups than cookie cutter firms. I am quite certain corporate legal departments will start realizing the value of smart, small law firms like yours. I wish great success to GNARUS!!

Rishi is a Fund team's dream come true in giving seamless advisory. What he lacks in experience, he more than makes up in execution capability and drive to service the clients needs. Bold yet excellent move!

Fed up of AMSS ...

December 18, 2012 - 7:32pm

Wish Rishi all the best for his big step. But what I don't understand y is B&B and legallyindia so obsessed with AMSS. People leaving and joining happens all the time whats the need to cover them here. More important legal issues and developments deserve to be on this site rather than some AMSS guy starting his own thing.

Rishi has always been focused on starting a firm which actually pays attention to its clients. His composite experience in PE, M&A, JV and Tax in India and other jurisdictions make him a well-rounded lawyer. That is what funds are looking for - an advisor that can hand hold them through a deal's legal nuances and receiving holistic advice as opposed to a brochure full of qualifications. Ask anyone abroad, they prefer a attorney with diverse experience and focused skill set. Rishi has brought that on every transaction he has advised us on.

@24 and 25 - seems like you guys are paid by the 'fat boys' to pull down anyone who has the courage and capabilities to stand up against them! Get a life and appreciate the efforts and the thought process that might have gone into this. There are several associates, senior associates and principal associates who leave firms like amss every month but generally they never make news - this dude did! I’m just curious how he managed to do this at such an early stage. Nonetheless – well done!

He says he always wanted to set-up his own law firm and that was the plan. I am wondering if he told this fact upfront during the interviews at the four law firms he has worked with.Or, is the history being modified while quoting in the present?Neverthless, it is a good and courageous step, and he must be encouraged for this. I genuinely wish him success in the future.

I have interacted with Rishi on a professional and personal level and I must say that I am very pleased to see him get on the fast track and move towards his goals. It appears that some people, who posted adverse comments, may not view this as a major step or something that requires serious work. However, there are serious challenges involved in starting out on your own at an early stage. Based on Rishi's calibre and commercial acumen, I have no doubts that Rishi will be successful. All the best!

Effectively, approx 4 years in 3 law firms, of which one is an indirect tax firm. Solid "Indian and international law firm" credentials to start an M&A and PE firm!!

Well done!!!This inspires me. Have heard really good things Rishi from few of my friends from law school. However, running a firm is a tough job. Nonetheless, the effort he has made will definitely pay him in the long run. @ 1 - stop writing discouraging comments. This guy has it in him - so he did it. Stop pulling others down when you are still a slave at some family house.Good luck dude!

Great going congrats. Its rare to find people willing to take the effort ..All the best. Really hope that more people will be willing to take initiative in future, and give young lawyers a chance to learn and excel. Such entrepreneurs are required in the legal field to create jobs and break the monopoly of major firms.

Dear Advocate : Guess you neither know Rishi nor his execution bias and knack for quality work.. maybe you should check with his team in AMSS and people who have worked with him in the past, bout how good a team player he is... Get a life - you are just jealous he started his own firm, which you never will..

There is nothing to challenge Rishi's calibre and that is also not the question here. What someone rightly pointed out was just because some one left AMSS does not call for an applause/news. Rishi started a law firm, good for him and I wish him good luck, but is it a news item- NO! Some how what is being covered is not Rishi but AMSS. Some years down the line he would also see this. The beauty of law is you can take on anyone head on. I have argued cases against the big wigs many a time, alas! was never covered by bar and bench. And I was just 3 years into the profession at that time.
