Nalsar retains Herbert Smith National Corporate Law Moot

2nd year Nalsar University of Law students, Jagdish Menezes, Tarun Gopalakrishnan and Nehaa Chaudhari beat National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur to win the second edition of the Herbert Smith National Corporate Law Moot, which was held at the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) campus in Kolkata between February 19 and 21. Nalsar also beat Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar at the semi-finals.

The finals was judged by a panel of 3, later increased to a 4 member panel, comprising Chris Parsons, Chairman of India group of Herbert Smith, Hardeep Nahal, Partner at Herbert Smith and Professor James Edelman, University of Oxford and Justice T. Chatterjee of the Calcutta High Court.

Jagdish told Bar & Bench, “The moot was fantastic and the hospitality of NUJS was great. The moot problem was on cross border insolvency. The Judges were fantastic and had deep understanding of the problem. Professor Edelman was himself a Jessup finalist and is well aware of mooting process. It felt great to argue before such an eminent panel.”

With a crystal trophy and a prize money of Rs. 30,000, the Nalsar team is definitely going to rejoice with this moot victory. This is Nalsar’s second win in 2010, and with this wiin, they retain the trophy for the Herbert Smith Moot. Earlier this year, they won the Bar Council of India moot, beating Indian Law Society, Pune in the finals.
