Amarchand gets 4 New Partners – Total tally reaches 48

Amarchand Mangaldas has promoted and hired laterally partners across their offices at Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, effective April 1 this year.

Delhi-based commercial arbitration and information technology law specialist, Tejas Karia will be joining the Amarchand partnership. Tejas is a graduate of ILS Law College, Pune and he also holds masters degrees from Gujarat University and London School of Economics. Along with Tejas, Delhi-based lawyer, Prashant Gupta will also be joining the partnership and will head the capital markets practice in the Delhi region. Prashant is an alumnus of Oxford University and has in the past worked at the Seattle-based firm, Perkins Coie and later at Sidley Austin. He moved to Amarchand Mangaldas in 2008. Amarchand’s Delhi office which has had an active capital markets practice will finally have a city-based partner leading the team.  

Niloy Pyne makes a shift from Khaitan & Partners to join Amarchand’s office in Kolkata. Niloy is considered as an expert in multiple fields. Niloy had left Khaitan & Co.'s Kolkata offices in 2006 as a Senior Associate to join Paras Kuhad as a Partner in Kolkata. After a brief stint with Paras Kuhad, Niloy joined Khaitan & Partners in 2008. He is also the founder of LPO E-Lex Solutions, a legal process outsourcing company. Speaking to Bar & Bench, Niloy said, "I will have to shut the LPO as I want to focus on bringing strength to the Amarchand partnership." 

In the Mumbai office, Vandana Pai Bharucha, a graduate of National Law School of India University, Bangalore who started her career at Amarchand in 2003 has been promoted as a partner.

This latest round of promotions and hiring means that Amarchand now has 48 partners across its offices. Earlier this year, Suhaan Mukerjee (Policy & Change practice) and Anuj Prasad (M&A practice) had joined the partnership in Delhi. Suhaan is a graduate from the National Law School Bangalore and the London School of Economics. Prior to starting the policy and regulatory division in Delhi, he has worked with the World Bank and in the Firm's Mumbai office as a corporate lawyer. Anuj is a graduate of Symbiosis Law College, Pune. He started his career with Dua Associates in 2001 before shifting to Amarchand Mangaldas as a Principal Associate in 2006.

The other partners inducted this year include Niloufer Lam, former consultant at Bank of America Trustees, who joined the Banking practice as Partner in the Mumbai office and Ganesh Prasad, who was promoted as a partner in the M&A practice in Mumbai.

A release issued by Amarchand also states that they are at an advanced stage of appointing a tax litigation partner.
