The President has appointed Justice Bhagwati Prasad as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, according to a PIB release. Justice Bhagwati was previously a Judge at the Gujarat High Court.
Justice Bhagwati was transferred to the Gujarat High Court in February 2008, from the Rajasthan High Court. He was the President, of the Rajasthan High Court Advocates Association in 1986 and its Secretary in 1976.
Justice Bhagwati has previously held the position of a Managing Trustee of the Bar Council of India Trust during 1992-93. He has taught law at the Jodhpur University and made attempts to improve the scenario and the performance of the Judges at the Subordinate Courts in Rajasthan.
Justice Bhagwati has written a thesis on the topic of “Fundamentalism, Law and National Integration: A Study With Special Reference to India.”
He was elevated as the Judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 1996. In the Gujarat High Court, Justice Bhagwati presided over some very sensitive proceeding including the challenge to recommendations of POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) Review Committee in the sensational Godhra train burning incident.
