Surat lawyers on indefinite strike

In the second such incident this week, lawyers in Surat have gone on an indefinite strike since Monday. Sources indicate that the strike is a consequence of the Gujarat High Court not having taken any action on the Surat Bar Association's demand for transferring District and Sessions Judge Mr. R.P. Dholaria. The Bar Association has declared a strike several times in the course of the last two months. The previous strike was called off when High Court Justice R. R. Tripathi assured the agitating lawyers of a free and fair inquiry against District Judge R P Dholaria within 20 days. The lawyers have now resumed their strike since they have had no word of the enquiry from the High Court.
