The Lornamead Group has sold their personal care products division in the United Arab Emirates and India to Wipro's consumer care and lighting division. Wipro also acquired the Asia, Asia-Pacific and North Africa operations of Lornamead's best-selling brand, Yardley, amongst others, although Lornamead continues to own the European and American arms of the brand.
AZB & Partners advised Lornamead on the domestic law aspects of the $45.5 million (Rs. 212 crore) transaction, while Clyde & Co. advised with regard to acquisition of operations in the UAE. Gordons LLP, London, were Lornamead's lead advisors on the transaction. The AZB team was led by Partners Ravi Prakash and Ashwin Ramanathan. Wipro handled the legal matters in-house.
Wipro, which is currently employing an aggressive growth policy, had in 2008 bought Singapore-based toiletries leader, Unza Holdings for $256 million (Rs. 1,194 crore).
