HSA Advocates is undertaking a CSR initiative by organizing ‘HSA Advocates – Trek for Life (Chadar 2012)’ to raise funds for the Indian Cancer Society, which promotes cancer awareness and education and offers high quality-low cost cancer screening facilities across India.

HSA’s Managing Partner Hemant Sahai (pictured right) and Partner Navin Syiem (pictured left) are attempting to trek on the frozen Zanskar River (called ‘Chadar’ in winter) in Ladakh between February 13 to February 21.

The trek will last for nine days, covering a distance of more than 100 kms at altitudes of 12,500 feet with temperatures ranging from minus 15 to minus 30 degrees.

Speaking to Bar & Bench Managing Partner Hemant Sahai said, “HSA – Trek for Life (Chadar 2012) is a demonstration of our Firm’s philosophy that we should make the effort to give back to society, in our own modest way. This event is just one element of our commitment. We plan to make our future initiatives also event based”.

Hemant added, “I also believe this is a manifestation of the innate leadership qualities in our partnership collegium, i.e. the ability to lead by example. It takes character and courage to run a trek of this magnitude … The same attributes required to run and a dynamic law firm. I am glad my partners are wholly supportive of this initiative”.

Navin Syiem said, “We are doing this trek to raise funds for Indian Cancer Society. This cause has been very close to me for quite a while. This gives you the additional motivation that you need to actually put yourself in a situation like this and do something so demanding”.

Navin while talking about the trek said, “The trek will be physically quite challenging looking at the altitude and and temperatures that often go down to minus 30. On the trek, we will be accompanied by one guide and two porters.”

Bar & Bench spoke to Jyotsna Govil Hon. Secretary of Indian Cancer Society Delhi on the HSA initivative. Jyotsna Govil said, “All of us at Indian Cancer Society are excited by the trek undertaken by Navin & Hemant in the beautiful Zanskar Valley, and their thoughtful gesture of garnering donations from sponsors for Indian cancer Society has touched all hearts. Their generosity gives us all fresh impetus in our work. We wish them a safe and fulfilling trek & look forward to featuring their progress on our website“.
