Meet our Campus Ambassadors: Disha Jain, TNNLU

Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Disha Jain, a fourth-year student at the Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirapalli (TNNLU).

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

Law was not my first choice, like most teenagers I wanted to become an Astronaut, a Pilot and at last a Scientist and earn a lot of money. However, after a small incident in life, a District Court lawyer inspired me.

It is through him that I realised the transformative potential the legal profession has and how many people struggle without proper access and knowledge of basic laws. I took up Law to become a Civil Servant and now, I believe it’s the best choice I’ve ever made!

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

Being from a developing NLU, our chances of interacting with the outside world are limited and I have always found Bar & Bench to be the link. I believe one of the most important aspects of being a successful campus ambassador is to believe in the organisation one represents.

I have for all my time in law school for academic research, moots and other activities used articles from Bar and Bench and have been voluntarily working as an unofficial campus ambassador telling all my friends and juniors to refer and subscribe to the updates for all law related activities.

It is in this genuine appreciation for the services, I shared an interest to be a part of your esteemed organisation.

What are your plans after graduation?

I fell in love with taxation in my third year of law school. I want to work with a Tax team in a law firm or maybe join one of the Big Four. I enjoy reading, writing and researching on tax propositions which include but not limited to International Tax & GST.

Along with this professional career path, I want to continue to help people with their cases. A lawyer’s potential to aid ‘Justice’ inspired me to take up this profession and I hope by my good work, I keep that fire alive and inspire many others to take up this noble profession.
