Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Himanshu Awasthi, a fourth-year student at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interest before deciding to pursue law school?

I was passionate about law, right from my 10th class, when my cousin had made it through her CLAT exam. I was aware that pursuing law can grant me access to choose between wide varieties of career choices, be it in corporate, litigation or other Academics field.

Apart from law, science has always intrigued me, which further led me to take Science as a subject in my 11th class. I still try to keep my interest for science go alongside my law degree by reading in these converging fields, like data and privacy law, tech law etc.

Why did you choose to become Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

I heard about Bar & Bench from my peers, and I was impressed when I first visited the Bar & Bench website. The way Bar & Bench chooses to spread information about the contemporary state of law is really commendable.

Being part of the organisation has made me more aware about the recent developments in legal fraternity, and not a single day has passed when I have not woken up to a new article about a new development in the field.

I feel that it’s a great platform for budding lawyers and law students to showcase their writing skills in the legal field by getting their articles published on the platform, while keeping themselves updated about legal developments at the same time.

What are your plans after graduation?

I wish to get my masters in Data Privacy law & Tech law, after which, I will pursue my career in the academic field. I further wish to conduct my research in the field where Law and science converge, and go on to pursue a doctorate in the same.

I also have plans to give back to the society by providing my legal services on a pro bono basis to those who cannot afford it.
