Vijender Kumar, who was made the Registrar of NALSAR University early last year, has been selected to head the National Law University in Guwahati. The appointment comes months after the tenure of the former NLUJAA head, Dr. Gurjeet Singh came to an end.
With NALSAR University since the 1998, Kumar completed his PhD under the watch of NALSAR’s founder Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ranbir Singh. With this appointment, approved by a committee led by Supreme Court’s Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Kumar becomes the second registrar of a national law university to be appointed vice chancellor in recent times.
In August this year, NLU Delhi’s Registrar Dr. Srikrishna Rao, was appointed the vice chancellor of NLU Odisha.
Kumar’s appointment comes at a time when NLUJAA students have had to resort to hunger strikes, in protest against the poor state of administration at the university.
