Students, researchers, and faculty at the National Law School of India, Bangalore have spoken out against the suicide of PhD scholar, Rohith Vermula.
Titled, “Statement Condemning the Shrinking Democratic Spaces in Educational Institutions”, the petition says that that the incident is an onslaught on the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Worse, Vermula’s suicide is symptomatic of the brutal suppression of dissent in the country, says the petition.
