Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), Prof Vijender Kumar, will be appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur.

Before his stint at NLUJAA, Prof Kumar was Registrar at NALSAR, Hyderabad. An expert in Family Law, he holds a PhD from MDU Rohtak and an LL.M. from Kurukshetra University.

The potential transfer happens at a time when NLUJAA students are protesting the state of affairs at the University, even as security forces were deployed on the campus earlier this month.

As reported earlier, operations at Maharashtra’s second NLU are likely to kick off this year. Prof BP Panda, VC of MNLU Mumbai was acting Vice-Chancellor of MNLU Nagpur until Prof Kumar’s appointment.

According to sources, Prof Kumar will take charge on June 1. He was not available for comment at the time of publishing this story.

The news was first reported by Hitavada.

Update: Prof Kumar has said that he is still considering the offer.
