The first graduating batch of the B.A, LL.B. (Hons.) programme from the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun (UPES) comprised of 78 students. Out of these 78 students, 65 opted to sit for placements and 26 have secured placements..Quislex emerged as the top recruiter by bagging 4 students although it had offered jobs to 11 students..Prominent recruiters include Amarchand Mangaldas, J. Sagar Associates, PwC, Fox Mandal, L & T and Thomson Reuters. Amarchand Mangaldas recruited two students but one of them has already left the firm after working for only ten days and has joined another prominent law firm. According to sources, the job offer was not for a standard position of ‘Associate’ but a newly created designation called ‘Executive Legal’ for the PE team and the offer included a promise to be elevated as an Associate in a team of the candidate’s choice after serving a probation period of 15 months..8 students have taken up litigation at the Bombay, Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, Allahabad High Courts, while 2 students have started practicing in the Supreme Court. 3 students are preparing for the judicial services exam and 1 student is going to pursue Masters in Petroleum Law and Policy at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mining law and Policy, University of Dundee, Scotland. 3 students have opted to pursue LL.M. at Indian Law Institute, Delhi; National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and Symbiosis Law School, Pune respectively..In view of the fact that the batch is yet to be fully placed, the placement session has been extended till August 2012 though the batch graduated in the first week of June. Firms such as Wadia Ghandy are in the process of finalizing their offers.
