About the position

IWWAGE/ IFMR in collaboration with the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London (KCL) invites applications for a position for a European Research Council funded project titled the Laws of Social Reproduction. The project offers a cutting-edge, inter-disciplinary lens to re-theories the normative, empirical, regulatory and policy dimensions of the law’s regulation of social reproduction across five sectors of women’s labour. The project broadly conceptualizes female reproductive labour to include unpaid domestic work as well as sex work, erotic dancing, commercial surrogacy and paid domestic work. One of the work packages for the project cataloguing for the various sectors, innovative economic models, legal and governance tools and policy proposals to enhance women’s economic bargaining power.

The project has one position based at IWWAGE, Delhi. The position is for a period of 1 year (full time). The candidate will be located at IWWAGE but will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Professor Prabha Kotiswaran, Dickson Poon School of Law, Kings College London.

Responsibilities

The position’s main responsibilities are to conduct socio-legal research, write memos, work on submissions to the government, prepare policy briefs and write research outputs and disseminate research as required. There may be an opportunity to conduct empirical research and organise events.

Qualifications

● LL.B. or B.A. LLB. (5 year law degree)

● Advanced knowledge or training in Indian law is essential

● The ability to appreciate inter-disciplinary research

● Legal expertise in law, gender and feminism

● Experience in conducting field research desirable

● Good knowledge of written and spoken English

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

● Writing to academic publication standard

● Proven ability to multi-task and propose solutions in a timely manner with nominal supervision

● Capacity to maintain an organized and structured work style in a fast-paced environment

● Ability to adapt quickly and respond confidently to changing environments and work with multiple stakeholders

● Strong interpersonal skills, and willingness to interact with a wide range of individuals

● Willingness to travel within India as required

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage others to meet tight deadlines and work collaboratively, must be a team player

● Intellectual curiosity and proactive disposition
