1. Dheeraj Mor v. High Court of Judicature at Delhi

Bench: J Chelameswar, Abhay Manohar Sapre JJ.

This case is considering the important question of whether persons in judicial service can be allowed to compete for the posts of district judges based on their experience at the Bar, without having to go through ‘promotions through the rank’.

2. Board of Control For Cricket v. Cricket Association Of Bihar & Ors.

[Item 301 in court 2 – CA 4235/2014]

Bench: Dipak Misra, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud JJ.

Hearing in the BCCI matter. On January 2, the Court had removed Anurag Thakur from the post of President of the BCCI for failing to implement the recommendations made by the Lodha Committee.

At the last hearing, Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramanium along with Senior Advocate Anil Divan had suggested nine names to be considered for appointment as members of an interim committee for administration of BCCI. The Court will rule on the same today.

Today in Court: The Court today allowed the Central government and State Cricket Associations to suggest names to be considered for appointment as members of the interim committee for administration of BCCI. The committee will be finalised after considering the suggestions of the Centre and State Associations.

The Court also allowed BCCI to suggest three names to be considered for representing BCCI at the ICC Executive meeting which will be held in February.

 Delhi High Court

1. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited v. Saregama India Limited

[CS (Comm) 1674/2016; Court No. 21 Item No. 2]

Bench: Rajiv Sahai Endlaw J.

Suit by Zee against Saregama restraining them from infringing their copyright for 29 films by allowing streaming and downloading of songs on their website.

2. Action Committee Unaided Recognized Private Schools v. Delhi Development Authority and Ors.

[W.P. (C) 272/2017; Court No. 10 Item No. 36]

Bench: Manmohan J.

Over 400 private schools built on the DDA land have opposed the government notification regarding the admissions in nursery schools on the basis of the “neighbourhood” principle.

Today in Court: The bench heard arguments on behalf of the government from ASG Sanjay Jain and listed the matter for January 30 for further hearing.
