The Delhi High Court yesterday restored the temporary injunction against the controversial book ‘Godman to Tycoon – The Untold Story of Baba Ramdev’ written by Priyanka Pathak Narain..Baba Ramdev had alleged that the book contains unfounded and misleading material which is malicious and scandalous and which harms his good reputation..Initially, a Civil Judge of the trial court had granted a temporary injunction against the book in September last year. However, after hearing the appeal of the author and the publisher, the Additional Senior Civil Judge vacated the injunction in April, this year..Subsequently, Baba Ramdev approached the Delhi High Court through the litigation team of Athena Legal led by Advocate Simranjeet Singh along with Advocates Rohan Ahuja, Sonali Dhir, Mahima Deepak, Sanjeevi, Saurabh Sethi, Mohd. Umar Iqbal Khan and Siddharth Mahajan..Besides seeking a declaration that certain portions of the book are objectionable and derogatory, Baba Ramdev also sought an injunction to restrain the author and the publisher from publishing, selling and distributing the book..Representing Baba Ramdev, Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan argued that the observations made by the Additional Senior Civil Judge, while setting aside the injunction, were contrary to law..The Single Judge Bench of Justice RK Gauba observed that prima facie, the contents of the book to which exception is taken, do seem to carry insinuations which are likely to harm the reputation of the petitioner (Baba Ramdev)..The Court while granting a temporary injunction against the book, stated that if such a protection is not granted, it would have the potential of resulting in irreparable loss of reputation of the petitioner..Image is taken from here..Read Order:
