Justice Khanwilkar of Bombay High Court to be new Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh

Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, the senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court, will be the next Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh. Today is the fifty-six year old judge’s last working day in the Bombay High Court.

As per this report,

“Justice Khanwilkar has delivered a number of judgments in PILs that have ensured greater accountability in civic administration and the key verdict on removal of illegal political banners.”

As per the Bombay High Court website, Justice Khanwilkar enrolled in 1980 and was made Standing Counsel for Maharashtra in 1985. He was made an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 29, 2000 and made a Permanent Judge on April 8, 2002. He shall reach the age of 62 on July 30, 2019.

Justice Kurien Joseph, the former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh was elevated to the Supreme Court in February this year. Justice RB Misra has been the Acting Chief Justice of that High Court following Justice Joseph’s elevation.
