CBI is not acting responsibly in Sushant Singh Rajput death probe: Plea in Supreme Court seeks CBI report in two months

Stating that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has acted "irresponsibly" in the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions for the probe to be completed within two months..The plea filed by Puneet Kaur Dhanda through Advocate Vineet Dhanda states that since the Supreme Court handed over the investigation in the case to the CBI on August 19, there has been little development in the case..The petition alleges that the CBI is "not acting in a responsible manner in the present case and there is a delay in the conclusion of the investigation of the case"..It goes on to state,"Even in serious offences like murder the law stipulates filing of charge sheets in ninety days but in the present case the premium investigating agency has failed miserably in their role and the unnecessary delay in the present case is bringing bad name to the administration of justice not only in our country but across the globe.".The petitioner has thus urged the Supreme Court to intervene in the present case, and direct the CBI to submit a status report on the progress of the investigation and to complete its investigation within a period of two months..In August this year, the Single Judge Bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy held that the CBI probe into the FIR lodged against actress Rhea Chakraborty in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput is lawful.This after the Centre had sought the apex court's nod for investigation into the case by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED)..The Court had also directed the Mumbai Police to hand over all the evidence in the case to the CBI..Chakraborty had found herself in the middle of a controversy after an FIR was registered against her by the father of her deceased partner, Sushant Singh Rajput. This FIR was lodged in Patna at a time when the Mumbai Police was conducting a probe into Rajput's death.On July 30, Chakraborty moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case lodged against her. In her transfer petition, she stated that the FIR in Patna alleging abetment to suicide charges against her was nothing but an act of "connivance" between the State of Bihar and the father of the late Sushant Singh Rajput..The Mumbai Police had earlier informed the Supreme Court in its affidavit that all the initial statements by Sushant Singh Rajput's family recorded in connection with his June 14 death do not indicate any suspicion on the cause of his death.
