Justice Indu Prabha Singh, former judge of Patna High Court, who holds the distinction of being the first woman judge of the High Court, passed away on Thursday..Justice Singh held office at the High Court's office at Ranchi. She was elevated to the bench on July 10, 1990 and served as a judge for a total of 17 years. She demitted office on September 1, 2007.Justice Singh had joined the Bar at Patna High Court in 1971 after completing her studies. She served as a Government Pleader for 5 years before she was elevated to the bench. .Singh's father Maheshwar Sinha was the Member, Senate of the Faculty of Law and of the Board of Examiners in Law, Bihar University. Her father was also the Vice-Principal, SKJ Law College and apart from that was the Public Prosecutor at Muzaffarpur..During her 17-year-long of career, Justice Singh pronounced several landmark judgments including on Panchayati Raj and on case relating to cessation of unfair means. The judgement by Justice Singh in the Madhepura case in which the State Election Commission (SEC) was ordered to recount votes led to Lalu Prasad Yadav losing the polls.
