Mahua Moitra summoned by Delhi Court in defamation case by Zee News

The Additional Metropolitan Magistrate at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in Zee Media Corporation Ltd’s criminal defamation case against her..Judge Samar Vishal has directed Mahua Moitra to appear in court on October 25..Zee News moved the Court agaisnt Moitra after she allegedly called Zee News ‘chor‘ (thief) and paid news..In the complaint filed through Advocates Vijay Aggarwal and Ayush Jindal, Zee News has stated that on July 3, Moitra made the following statement in front of various persons, including persons from media:.“i. Aap ka jo paid news hai wo kya keh rahe haiI am not bothered about them.. (What your paid news is saying, I am not bothered about it).ii. Aap logon ka jo channel hai wo chor hai, uska owner chor hai, nai nai aap log nai kar sakte kar sakte, mene press release diya hai, aap log inte uneducated aur budwak hai, hum press release abhi de rahe hai.. (Your channel is a thief. its owner is a thief.. you all are so uneducated and stupid..). “.Zee News had argued that it had built an impeccable reputation as a premier media house and earned name, fame and reputation in public through sheer hard work..However, the “intentional hate campaign” of Moitra tarnished the reputation of the complainant, it was alleged..In July, Moitra had filed a criminal defamation case against Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary for alleging that her June 25 speech at the Parliament on the ‘Seven Signs of Fascism‘ was plagiarized..She deposed that Sudhir Chaudhary’s allegation that she had copied the work of one Martin Longman was intended to severely and irreversibly damage and lower her credibility, reputation and impeccable integrity..On July 15, Metropolitan Magistrate Preeti Parewa took cognizance of Moitra’s criminal defamation complaint..The proceedings in this case has been stayed by the Additional Sessions Court today.
