Finance Min sets up Endowment Chair at NLSIU for research in International practices

An endowment chair has been set up by the Revenue department of the Finance Ministry at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, to carry out research in International practices pertaining to key areas such as taxation, dispute resolution mechanism, transfer pricing and e-commerce among others, and their adoption in the Indian context.

The research so generated is expected to influence future policy decisions in these areas and for the purpose of training officers. As per TOI, the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN), part of the revenue department under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), has signed an agreement with NLSIU for instituting the Endowment Chair. An endowment fund of Rs 6 crore has reportedly been allocated for the purpose.

Researchers and students of the law university will carry out studies specific to the needs of the indirect tax department.

NLSIU is also tasked with designing a law module to be used for the training of future IRS Officers, an allied responsibility of its endowment partner NACIN.
