The Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition seeking an NIA probe in the sedition case involving JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar..The Petitioner’s counsel, Shankar Jain, had mentioned the matter for an urgent hearing yesterday before a Division Bench of Justices BD Ahmed and RK Gauba..Jain had also submitted that media houses ought to be directed by the Court, to place video footage of the event that was held in the JNU campus on February 9 in which anti-India slogans were allegedly raised..The petition had also sought directions from the Court for appointment of a judicial commission..Today the case came up for hearing before Justice Manmohan, who termed the plea to be ‘immature’ as the Delhi Police had already commenced investigation in this regard..“The incident occurred on February 9 and the police have already begun their investigation. Let them do their work. You have not even made a representation in this regard to the Government. Entertaining this petition at this stage would be premature.”.When the Petitioner’s counsel argued that the protesters were raising anti-India slogans and ‘de-stabilizing the country’, the Court categorically refused to consider those submissions and observed that ‘politics ought to be kept out of the Court’..Appearing for the Central Government, Anil Soni argued that the JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar had already been arrested in this regard and would be investigated soon. He further submitted that the NIA will take suo moto cognizance of the issue and the Petitioner should have ‘faith in the police’..While dismissing the petition, Justice Manmohan also noted that the Court was ‘confident that the Delhi Police will do its job properly.’
