The petition states that the statements made by Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee attack the sovereignty, antithetical to the Constitutional provisions of “Oath of Office”.

CM Banerjee had said that CAA, NRC will be implemented in West Bengal only over ‘my Dead Body’. We will never allow NRC and CAA in Bengal. No one will be ousted from the state.

The matter came up before a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde.

The CJI dismissed the Petition saying High Court is the appropriate forum and not the Supreme Court.

Trinamool MP Mahua Mitra has also filed a challenge against the Citizen Amendment Act, 2019.
