Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has rebuked the Supreme Court Registry yet again, expressing his disappointment at its functioning..When a matter was mentioned before him for listing, CJI Gogoi said,.“There is something fundamentally wrong. Despite lot of efforts, I have not been successful (in getting cases listed).”.Gogoi J. also said that despite the Supreme Court having far less number of cases in comparison to high court, listing is taking more time in the former..“In High Court, 6,000 cases are filed every (not clear) and it gets listed next day. In Supreme Court, only 1,000 cases are filed and it is not listed. .We direct that matter should not be deleted from the list and still it gets deleted”, remarked CJI Gogoi..It is safe to say the the Chief Justice has not been too happy with the way the Supreme Court Registry has been working. Earlier this month, he rebuked the Registry officials in open court after a mentioning by a lawyer who claimed that her matter was deleted from the list..In May this year, the CJI came down hard upon the Registry for listing a case contrary to the previous order of the Court..He had taken exception to the fact that the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited v. Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association case was listed too soon..He, therefore, refused to hear the case. Instead, the Bench headed by him passed an order seeking an explanation from the Registry..In light of recent incidents that brought the integrity of the Supreme Court Registry under the scanner, it was reported that officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Delhi Police would be deputed to the Apex Court to keep a close watch on things..Earlier this year, two court masters were sacked for tampering with an order of the Supreme Court in Ericsson’s contempt plea against Reliance Communications and Anil Ambani. Manav Sharma and Tapan Kumar Chakraborty were later arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch for apparently tampering with the order.
