"We are with you": NLSIU Student Body extends support to NLAT aspirants prejudiced by test requirements
The Student Bar Association (SBA) of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has released a statement extending its support for students who may be face difficulties in accessing the recently announced NLAT for NLSIU admissions this year.
The Statement signed by Vignesh Ramakrishnan and Kanishka Singh, President and the Vice-President of the SBA, records the Body's commitment to "do its best" in resolving access-related issues. The SBA has undertaken to provide technical assistance to students desiring to take the exam.
"As students of NLS, we are committed to do our best to help bridge this issue of access. Taking the lead, some of our students had already started an initiative to ensure technical equipment such as laptops, dongles, etc, at least are available to aspirants who need them."SBA, NLSIU
To this end, a database of students in need of technical assistance is being prepared, the SBA's statement informs.
The NLSIU's decision to conduct its own entrance examination (NLAT) this year for admissions has drawn criticism from various quarters over inherent accessibility issues given the technical requirements necessary to write the online exam.
A petition challenging its validity has also been moved before the Jharkhand High Court.
Expressing its solidarity with NLAT aspirants apprehensive of access-related issues, the University's SBA has said,
"We realize there are multiple concerns regarding the accessibility of NLAT especially given the technical requirements and lack of clarity regarding several points."
Pertinently, the SBA Statement adds that efforts are underway to reduce the chances of technical glitches and internet drops that may prejudice the examination.
