The Delhi High Court judges had today made surprise visits to district courts in the capital to evaluate the functioning of the subordinate judiciary.

As reported by Bar & Bench, a task force headed by Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Gita Mittal today made a surprise visit to the Patiala House court complex. Similar inspections were carried out by other judges of the High Court; Justice Ravindra Bhat visited the Tis Hazari complex, Justice Sanjiv Khanna went to the Rohini courts, Justice GS Sistani showed up at Karkardooma, Justice S Muralidhar at Saket, and Justice Vipin Sanghiwent to the Dwarka courts.

Another interesting information has now emerged. The Acting Chief Justice, Gita Mittal took an auto to reach the Patiala House court. It appears that Justice Mittal, in order to keep the special operation under wraps, ditched her official car for auto-rickshaw.

The operation did indeed take the District judges by surprise as many judges were found coming late to court. The judicial officers were found to be arriving post 10:30 AM, beyond the stipulated time of 10:00 AM.

Ever since Justice Gita Mittal took over the reins of the Delhi High Court, she has ushered in very many changes. Besides making welcome changes in the functioning of the High Court, Justice Mittal has also initiated a clean-up drive of the lower judiciary.
