Advocate Dinesh Pathak recommended as Judge of Allahabad HC [Read Collegium Resolution]

Meera Emmanuel

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended a lawyer, advocate Dinesh Pathak for elevation as a judge of the Allahabad High Court.

The High Court Collegium had endorsed the elevation of Pathak as a High Court judge in February last year, along with 32 other names.  In September last year, the Supreme Court Collegium had deferred considering 16 of the 33 names forwarded, including the name of advocate Pathak.

In February this year, the consideration of his proposed elevation was again deferred by the Supreme Court Collegium for receipt of comments by the Allahabad High Court Chief Justice on certain unconfirmed inputs. This report was placed before the Supreme Court Collegium on February 18.

Following the same, the Collegium has now found advocate Pathak suitable for elevation to the High Court. To ascertain his suitability, the Collegium also consulted with colleagues familiar with the affairs of the High Court apart from consideration of inputs from the Department of Justice.

The resolution passed today concurring with the proposal to elevate advocate Pathak as an Allahabad High Court judge states,

Having regard to all the relevant factors, and the material placed on record, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Dinesh Pathak is suitable for elevation to the High Court.

We, therefore, recommend that Shri Dinesh Pathak, Advocate be appointed as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.
