Centre notifies appointment of three judges to Madhya Pradesh High Court

Aditya AK

Pursuant to Supreme Court Collegium recommendations made last month, the Central government has notified the appointment of three judges to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Judicial Officers Vishnu Pratap Singh Chauhan, Rajeev Kumar Shrivastava and Shailendra Shukla have been appointed as judges of the High Court.

The High Court Collegium had also recommended two other judicial officers and five advocates for appointment as High Court judges.

As per the Collegium resolution dated October 24, the names of the remaining judicial officers so recommended, i.e. Rajendra Prasad Sharma and Rajesh Gupta would be taken up for consideration by the Collegium after some time.

The Supreme Court Collegium declined to approve the elevation of all five advocates recommended by the High Court Collegium, finding that their names deserved to be remitted back to the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

With these new appointments, the Madhya Pradesh High Court will have a sitting strength of 35 judges, taking into account the retirement of Justices SK Palo and AK Joshi, and the transfer of Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh from the Madras High Court this month. The number of vacancies at the High Court will be 18.
