Collegium to consider six names for elevation as Supreme Court judges

The Supreme Court Collegium is likely to meet this week to recommend the names of at least six persons for elevation as Supreme Court judges.

Besides reiterating the names of Uttarakhand High Court Justice KM Joseph, names of at least six other judges are in the zone of consideration for elevation.

They are Madras High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, Orissa High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran, Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Hemant Gupta, Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Hyderabad High Court judge, Justice Ramesh Ranganathan.

The Supreme Court is currently functioning with 22 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 31.
