Meet our Campus Ambassadors: Shubham Jaiswal, BHU

Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Shubham Jaiswal, a second-year student at Banaras Hindu University.

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

Law was never a first career option for me. I had taken science with mathematics in my 12^th and followed many of my peers towards being an engineer. I failed miserably in clearing engineering entrances and that’s when I started exploring other options.

I always had debates with my father and friends relating to contemporary socio legal issues happening in our country. I was very curious to understand the legality of the issues and always wanted to learn more about what exactly Constitution offers to its citizens.

I chose law because I thought it will surely reduce my curiosity of understanding socio legal issues and will help me in improving my thoughts, verbal and analytical skills.

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

Bar & Bench is one of the most renowned source of legal news, and publishes well researched, insightful and credible content. Bar & Bench is a big name in the field of Legal Journalism and I always wanted to learn more about how such kind of journalism runs.

I chose to be a Campus Ambassador to stay updated about the legal developments and create a network in the legal field. Also, my college does not had media partners earlier in any of the events so I thought Campus Ambassador program will allow me to represent my college before the other law schools and seize every other opportunity to bring laurels to itself.

What are your plans after graduation?

My plans after graduation are not clear as of now. A few of my seniors advised me to adopt the process of elimination, so I am currently in that phase and exploring different options each day.

But I am more inclined towards a litigation career in the Supreme Court of India than anything else. I am surely not looking for further studies or foreign LL.M.s.

I am still in my third year and figuring out what will really suit me.
