Argus Partners advises Balrampur Chini Mills on establishing India’s first industrial bioplastics manufacturing plant

Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML), one of the largest integrated sugar mill companies in India, has executed definitive documents with Sulzer AG, Alpine Engineering GmbH and Jacobs Solutions India Private Limited to establish a Polylactic Acid (PLA) – bioplastics manufacturing plant.

Argus Partners advised BCML on the execution of these documents.

This venture will facilitate the establishment of India’s first-ever industrial bio-plastic plant and is expected to be a pioneer in promoting innovation in plastic production, well-aligned with the sustainability goals envisioned by India in order to combat climate change.

The PLA plant with an estimated capex of ₹2,000 crores, is expected to generate 75,000 tonnes of PLA per annum. The project will use PLA grade lactide acid obtained from sugar to produce PLA which provides a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics.
