Luthra gets the IMAX 3D experience to PVR Cinemas in India

PVR Limited, a leading player in the cinema exhibition business and operator of multiplexes in India has tied in with one of the world’s leading technology companies, IMAX Corporation to install and maintain digital IMAX theatre systems. The IMAX theatre systems will be installed in four locations in India..Luthra & Luthra advised PVR Limited with a team led by Partner Samir Dudhoria, Managing Associate Aparna Mittal and Associate Bikramaditya Bose..Speaking with Bar & Bench on the transaction, Samir Dudhoria said, “The uniqueness is of the equipment which is a very high-end product and is made for 3D digital theatre experience with acoustics and the latest technology from IMAX and it probably gives PVR the direction for future collaborations as initially its only for four products, but I think the understanding is that if it really kicks off then they will go for all the other theatres that they (PVR) have”..Luthra’s Tax Partners S.R. Patnaik and Sanjeev Sachdeva advised on the direct and indirect tax aspects along with Sumit Mangal and Sameer Jain..IMAX Corporation was advised by their in-house counsel along with Agarwal Jetley & Company who advised IMAX on the regulatory aspects with Partner Mandira Mitra..According to the CNBC, IMAX Corporation and PVR Cinemas will install digital IMAX theatre systems at four cinemas in India. The first two systems will be installed in the next year in Mumbai and Bangalore. India already has four other IMAX theatres in operation, with two others planned.
