The Supreme Court will continue hearing the case arising from the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight persons, including farmers, were mowed down allegedly by a four-wheeler of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni.

Teni was arrested and has been charged with murder.

The Court had initiated the case after two lawyers had written to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana seeking CBI probe.

The matter is being heard by a Bench of CJI Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli.

During the previous hearing, the Bench said that it does not have confidence in the judicial commission constituted by Uttar Pradesh (UP) government to monitor the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The Court, therefore, suggested the names of Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain or Justice Ranjit Singh, both retired judges from Punjab and Haryana High Court to monitor the investigation.
