A group of people today protested outside the Supreme Court of India against the ban imposed by the Court on sale of crackers in Delhi-NCR..According to a video which is being circulated on Whatsapp, the protesters are seen bursting crackers on Bhagwan Das Road and outside one of the Gates while chanting Jai Sri Ram with the police initially looking on..Eventually the police can be seen as removing the protesters..According to News18, the protesters belong to a Hindutva outfit called Azad Hind Fauj. Many of them have been detained at the Tilak Marg Police Station..Here is the video..On September 12, the Supreme Court had modified its November 2016 order on the sale of fireworks, observing that a complete ban would be “an extreme step”. However, on October 9, the Court had ordered that its order of September 12 lifting the ban, would come into effect only from November 1 thereby retaining the ban for Diwali..The Court in its order had stated that it was doing so after the petitioner prayed that the ban should be in place at least for one Diwali season in order to find out the effect of such ban on pollution level..The ban had irked many, leading to wide spread anger against the Court on social and other media and it has now eventually spilled into the streets..The Supreme Court premise is a high security zone which is heavily guarded and such protests are not common place in or around the Court..The Court is currently closed for Diwali..Earlier, a group of women had protested against the verdict of the Court on Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code..In August this year, the Delhi high Court had received a bomb threat prompting a high-level security review..Click here to download the Bar & Bench Android App
