Delhi University Faculty of Law allows one-time re-exam for 1st to 4th term backlogs

The Faculty of Law, Delhi University (DU) will hold a one-time re-examination for students with backlog papers from the first 4 terms of the 3-year LL.B. programme, starting September 22.

An August 29 notice signed by Dean Anju Vali Tikoo said that the re-examination is for students who appeared in the 6th term examinations held in May-June 2026. It covers backlog papers of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th terms. The notice, however, clarifies that the re-examination is being conducted as a one-time exception only.

The relief follows a hunger strike by final year students that commenced in the last week of July. It ended on August 8, after the University's Proctor had given written assurance that orders for re-examination in two specific backlog papers - Constitutional Law-I and Administrative Law - would follow. The August 29 notice from the Dean's office is broader, covering all 4 terms rather than the 2 papers initially named.

Notably, the notice does not revisit the 2017 rule that confined the regular supplementary examination window to 5th and 6th term subjects, a review of which students had sought.
