
A faculty member of the Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (DNLU) and four undergraduate students from the University have been invited to present their individual research before the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, in June 2025.
The invitation has been extended to Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Studies in International Trade and Investment Laws (CITIL), Utkarsh K Mishra and four BA LL.B (Hons.) students, Saurav Tiwari, Nehal Yadav, Poorva Vatsa and Vasujit Dubey.
They are among the 45 researchers selected from a global pool of 200 applicants. The WTO has fully funded the student's participation.
They will be attending the second edition of the World Trade Congress on Gender, on the theme 'Gender Equality and Innovation, the Keys to Sustainable Trade', to be held at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland from June 24-27, 2025.
This WTO biennial international research conference on trade and gender is organized in partnership with UN Women as well as jointly with the WTO Gender Research Hub.
In a mix of high-level sessions, networking events and technical discussions, the Congress' main objective is to support the formulation of gender-responsive trade policies built on research and data, to pioneer and deepen research on how women's empowerment can fuel innovation and how trade can be a driver for this change.
Earlier this year, faculty member Utkarsh K Mishra was also invited to join the WTO's Gender Research Hub as a Member and Expert.
The invitation extended to DNLU to be part of the WTO Gender Congress followed an International Conference on Gender Dimensions in International Trade, organized by DNLU in August 2024.
This event was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj K Sinha, Registrar, Dr Praveen Tripathi, Prof (Dr) Shailesh N Hadli, and Assistant Professor Utkarsh K Mishra.
The conference, conducted under the WTO Chairs Programme, was held in collaboration with WTO's Trade and Gender Unit, the CITL, and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi.
The event featured Anoush Der Boghossian, Senior Designate Official from the WTO, as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker.
