Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (DNLU) is offering an Advanced Certificate Course on Drafting and New Criminal Laws from November 15 to November 23.

Designed for law students, advocates, in-house counsel, legal practitioners, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding India’s reformed criminal laws, the classes will be held on weekends.

The course blends conceptual clarity with practical exercises to build confidence and competence in applying these laws.

The course covers five key modules, which offer a structured understanding of India’s new criminal justice framework through the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) including the rationale behind the reforms to practical drafting.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of substantive offences, procedural mechanisms, and evidentiary rules, while also developing hands-on drafting skills relevant to modern criminal practice.

  4. The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA)

    Key provisions and framework; Relevancy and admissibility of facts; Burden of proof, estoppel, and electronic evidence; Rules of best and circumstantial evidence; Examination of witnesses

  5. Criminal Drafting and Practice

    Principles of criminal drafting: clarity, accuracy, and precision; Drafting FIRs, complaints, and charge sheets; Bail and anticipatory bail applications; Appeals, revisions, and review petitions; Drafting arguments, witness summons, and trial briefs; Common drafting errors and effective advocacy techniques

Certification

Certificates of participation/ completion shall be issued to all participants on the basis of attendance. An online multiple-choice assessment will be conducted upon the conclusion of the course. Participants who undertake the assessment will have their respective grades duly reflected on their certificates
