Gujarat Maritime University to host 6th GMU Academy on Seabed Governance

The Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) is organising its 6th Academy on Seabed Governance to be held from March 1-6, 2025, with lectures on various aspects of ocean governance and maritime security. Registrations for the event are now open.

The Academy on Seabed Governance is an educational initiative is aimed at imparting a comprehensive understanding of the intricate frameworks governing the ocean floor and the complexities surrounding it.

It focuses on assisting in gaining a better understanding of the emerging challenges in Seabed Governance, including the existing legal structures surrounding seabed and ocean governance, and the United National Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Drawing on the expertise of leading scholars and practitioners from India and abroad, the latest edition of the event will feature discussions that will delve into critical topics such as the Continental Self, Delimitation, and Area. Sessions will be taken by some of the leading Ocean Law experts from across the world. 

Previous editions have covered essential areas such as Maritime Labor Law, Oceans Law and Policy, Admiralty Law, and International Fisheries Law.

The first two editions of the Academy were on Maritime Labor Law. The third edition was related to Oceans Law and Policy. The fourth edition, held in December 2022, focused on Admiralty Law. The most recent edition, which took place in January 2024, centred on International Fisheries Law.

The 6th GMU Academy on Seabed Governance will be conducted online.
