Parul University has engaged Justice Rajesh Bindal, former judge of the Supreme Court of India, as Distinguished Professor of Law at the Parul Institute of Law, in a step towards further strengthening the interface between judicial practice and legal academia.

This development reflects a deliberate and forward-looking effort by the University to reimagine legal education as a meaningful convergence of doctrine, institutional insight, and lived judicial experience, particularly in an era of increasing legal complexity, global interdependence, and evolving constitutional values.

Having served on the Bench of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Bindal brings with him experience in constitutional adjudication, statutory interpretation, and the nuanced dynamics of judicial reasoning. His engagement with students is expected to transcend conventional classroom teaching, encouraging them to interrogate, contextualise, and apply legal principles with intellectual rigour.

Justice Bindal’s judicial outlook is marked by a pronounced constitutional consciousness. He has underscored that public discourse often disproportionately centres on rights, with insufficient attention to corresponding duties. In his view, the frequent assertion of “this is my right” must be matched by an equally robust recognition of civic and constitutional responsibilities, if the constitutional order is to function in a stable and just manner.

As per the university, this perspective offers students a deeper understanding of the foundational ethos of the Constitution of India, particularly the delicate equilibrium between rights and duties in a democratic society.

Through this association, students at the Parul Institute of Law are expected to gain first-hand insight into complex constitutional questions, the inner workings of the judiciary, and the craft of judicial reasoning. The guidance of a former Supreme Court judge is also envisaged to foster critical thinking, ethical sensitivity, and a strong sense of professional responsibility among future members of the Bar and the Bench.

The University has emphasised that this engagement is conceived as a substantive and ongoing academic association, bringing together experience, scholarship, and institutional purpose to ensure that legal education at Parul University is not merely delivered, but continuously interrogated, refined, and elevated.

With stalwarts such as Justice Bindal contributing to its academic environment, Parul University seeks to further consolidate its position as a space where legal education is both formative and transformative for aspiring legal professionals.

The announcement was accompanied by a ceremonial welcome extended by Mr. Shubhank Khare, Assistant Director, Faculty of Law, Parul University, alongside Nivvedita Chauhan, Managing Partner, Komal Singh, Associate Partner & Tanvi Mahajan, Junior Partner at NC Legal Advocates and Solicitors.
