The Maharashtra government's Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has issued a letter to Indian Law Society (ILS) Law College, Pune, asking it to refund fees amounting to ₹1,04,863 to a student.

The DHE's letter comes after a Bombay High Court disposed a writ petition filed by the ILS student, Mayur Garud.

Garud had previously filed a Right to Information (RTI) asking for the various heads under which ILS collected fees from law students. After the student, had protested the excessive fee collection, he was issued a show-cause notice by the administration.

The RTI response had revealed that ILS, in spite of receiving financial support from the State government and the University Grants Commission, and having huge amounts of underutilised funds, had collected high fees under various heads from students.
