

The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), is organizing the 1st NLIU-NHRC National Moot Court Competition, 2026, scheduled to be held from January 9-11, 2026, at the NLIU, Bhopal campus.
The moot proposition focuses on ‘Human Rights in Emerging Criminal Justice Practice’. The theme allows law students to explore the intersection of human rights and criminal law. The objective of collaborating with the NHRC is to sensitize law students to human rights issues by engaging them with practical experiences.
The proposition has been drafted by Doctoral Fellow, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and NLIU alumnus, Himanshu Dixit.
The competition will commence with a memorial qualification round. The top 24 teams, based on the memorial scores, will qualify for the oral rounds, which will be conducted at the NLIU campus.
The oral rounds will comprise two preliminary rounds, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final round.
Each team will consist of three members, two speakers, and one researcher.
Note: Participation is limited to one team per institution. No open or cross-institutional team shall be permitted.
Memorial qualification round: ₹1,500
Oral rounds additional fee: ₹3,500
Winners: ₹41,000 along with a trophy and certificates of merit
Runners-up: ₹25,000 along with a trophy and certificates of merit
Best Memorial (Petitioner): ₹11,000 along with an award and certificates of merit.
Best Memorial (Respondent): ₹11,000 along with an award and certificates of merit.
Best Speaker: ₹5,000 along with an award and certificate of merit.
All participating team in the memorial qualification rounds of the moot will receive certificates of participation.

NLIU invites all law schools to participate in the Moot. Provisional registration is mandatory for all institutions.
Details for final registration for memorial qualification rounds will be shared upon confirmation of the provisional registration.
