Symbiosis Law School Pune wins Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot

A team from Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune emerged victorious at the global rounds of the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot, 2025 conducted by the INSOL International and the International Insolvency Institute held online from February 17-23.

The team comprised Abhinav Gour, Nauman Mir, Aniket Rauthan and Arunim Ghosh. Abhinav Gour was also declared the Best Mooter in the semi-final rounds.

The final round was adjudicated by judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice Jane Dietrich, Geoffrey Morawetz and Insolvency Court of Heilbronn, Germany Justice Eberhard Nietzer.

The team won against 37 teams in the Memorial Qualifier Round and 12 teams in the Oral Rounds. The final round was contested against Singapore Management University, which has held the winner's position for the past 3 years.

Other leading international teams that participated were Peking University, Beijing, and Monash University, Australia.

NALSAR, HNLU, RGNUL were among the other Indian teams that had participated in the competition.

The problem dealt with the recognition of substantive consolidation of foreign companies, non-consensual third-party release of non-debtors, centring on the effect post the Harrington v Purdue Pharma judgement.

The SLS Pune team is only the second Indian team to win the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition.
