The convocation address was delivered by Justice BV Nagarathna. She expressed her immense pride in addressing the graduating class of 2025. She congratulated the students for successfully completing one of the most rigorous legal education programs, highlighting their perseverance, intellectual rigor, and moral tenacity. She emphasized that their degree is not just a personal achievement but a call to serve society and uphold constitutional values.

She urged the graduates to act as 'Officers of the Court and Stewards of the Constitution,' reminding them that their role goes beyond litigation — it is about ensuring justice, equality, and access to legal remedies for all. She highlighted that in times of ambiguity, they must let their ethical compass guide their decisions, choosing integrity over expediency.

Justice Nagarathna also underscored the evolving nature of law in the face of societal, technological, and environmental changes, encouraging graduates to be innovative, principled, and committed to public service. Finally, she exhorted them to use their knowledge and skills to build inclusive institutions and promote systemic equity, becoming true custodians of the rule of law.

Ashish Sood, in his address, described the convocation as a milestone not only for the graduates but also for their families and teachers who shaped their journeys. He invoked Upanishadic wisdom “Sā Vidyā Yā Vimuktaye” to stress that true education is that which liberates and transforms, urging students to look beyond degrees and embrace knowledge as a responsibility towards society. Highlighting the inseparability of Vidya (knowledge) and Dharma (duty), he reminded graduates that their education in law carries the responsibility of upholding justice and constitutional values. He also acknowledged the silent sacrifices of parents, calling them the true architects of their children’s success.

In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GS Bajpai gave an account of the impressive academic achievements of students and faculty, the robust research ecosystem being developed in the University, expanded educational equity measures, and internationalisation efforts that have ensured that NLU Delhi achieved Rank 2 in the government of India’s NIRF rankings 2025 for the eighth consecutive year.

Prof. Bajpai also highlighted NLU Delhi’s rapid rise as a leader in legal education through innovations like specialised programmes in Insolvency and Intellectual Property Law, and cutting-edge initiatives in AI and legal tech.
