Participants allege gross mismanagement Oxford India Moot Court Competition; Organizers deny allegations, claim defamation

The recently held Oxford India Moot Court Competition in New Delhi has turned into a PR nightmare for the Oxford University Society of India (OUSI). One student participant has made a number of allegations via this blog post on Lawctopus, including gross mismanagement, lack of proper facilities and more..That particular post even claims that members of the competition organisation committee were arrested after a violent clash with student participants. It reads,.“The members of the Organising Committee were arrested for allegedly beating up a boy and a girl representing a team which had turned up late for registration the previous team and were disqualified.Their train was late and this obviously was not a good enough ground for the organisers to consider and allow them (this was alleged by the team when the police had turned up). We heard that the moot might just be called off.”.When asked via e-mail to confirm the veracity of the blog post, we received the following response,.“The contents of the said blog post are false and / or misrepresentative and defamatory in nature.We have requested the concerned website owner to remove the aforesaid post immediately”.Preliminary enquiries suggest that there is some truth to the allegations. We did manage to speak to a few participants and it appears that there is some truth in to the allegations of mismanagement. One participant said that some moot court rooms did not have a podium, while another said that the quality of judging during the preliminary rounds was extremely poor..Specific queries, with respect to the arrest for instance, were also sent to the organisers but have not yet managed to elicit any response. .Updates expected soon.
