The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University, Hyderabad (NALSAR) has witnessed 68 offers being made to the Class of 2013, a batch which has a total strength of 80 students..Amarchand Mangaldas (which recently topped the RSG Indian Law Firms Rankings 2013) has made 9 offers while AZB & Partners has made 6 offers. ICICI and ITC Ltd, have made 3 offers each. With respect to international law firms, Linklaters has offered 3 Training Contracts, while Herbert Smith has offered 2 Training Contracts. Of the 68 offers, 1 is a judicial clerkship in Delhi and 6 offers are from Senior Advocates in various cities. A total of 9 students have opted to pursue further studies..In an email sent to Bar & Bench, the Recruitment Co-ordination Committee at NALSAR (RCC) said that they had made a conscious decision of “significantly diversifying” the list of potential recruiters. For example, this year the RCC reached out to Senior Advocates in various High Courts as well as the Supreme Court. “We explained to [them] that national law universities were set up to produce better lawyers,” says the RCC, “and while we have committees formed to streamline recruitment into corporate houses, no such institutionalized support and streamlined process was available for joining the Bar.”.Another difference was the manner in which the RCC went about identifying recruiters. “We did not want to work towards merely getting our subscribers jobs,” says Mirza Saaib Beg who heads the Student Bar Council at NALSAR, “we wanted to get them jobs that they wanted.” Saaib gives the example of a student who specifically needed a job in Ranchi. “We secured an offer for him from one of the most reputed PSUs in Ranchi.”.Last year, Luthra & Luthra had picked up 9 students; this year it is yet to make a single offer. Amarchand, and AZB & Partners, however continue to maintain their strong hiring spree. Meanwhile, the recruitment process will continue, with interviews scheduled over the next fortnight.
