Two students of the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa died in a motor accident in the early hours of October 26.

The University has said that end-semester examinations will go ahead as per schedule, from October 28. In an email in the early hours of October 27, Controller of Examinations Dr Abhishek Mishra said that students who feel unable to appear may choose not to. He added that no student should feel compelled to appear while in profound distress.

Second-year students emailed the administration at 2:25 AM on October 27, seeking postponement of the exams to January 2027. They also asked for counselling on campus and a memorial for the two students.

The email stated that several batchmates had to go to the hospital and endure an experience that no student should ever have to face. A student informed Bar & Bench that those at the hospital saw grave injuries and had to help move the bodies themselves. Many students are struggling to eat, sleep or focus, the email said.

Mishra replied at 5:19 AM, urging students to appear as scheduled. He cited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who carried on with their duties after personal loss and said that affected students could approach the University individually.

A second email at 5:27 AM, to the wider batch, said that exams would go on for those able to appear and said that those who could not appear could appear for repeat examinations.

Students said that repeat examinations are of 75 marks and require payment of fines, while regular papers are of 50 marks. They also said that no memorial had been organised as of Tuesday.
