Alliance School of Law signs MoU with KSLSA

The partnership will operationalise Legal Services Clinics at Alliance School of Law.

Alliance School of Law, Alliance University, Bengaluru has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA).

The MoU was signed at the KSLSA office, Bengaluru. Member Secretary, KSLSA, H Shashidhara Shetty executed the agreement on behalf of KSLSA and Registrar, Alliance University, Dr Matam Viswanathaiah executed the agreement on behalf of Alliance University.

The partnership aims to operationalise Legal Services Clinics at Alliance School of Law in accordance with the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and the National Legal Services Authority (Legal Services Clinics) Regulations, 2011.

Under the MoU, KSLSA will extend professional and institutional support to the clinics, including deputing advocates and legal officers, providing legal literacy materials, and facilitating coordination through District and Taluk Legal Services Committees.

Pro-Chancellor, Alliance University Abhay G Chebbi has been instrumental in inculcating legal services in the the academic curriculum. Vice-Chancellor, Alliance University, Dr B Priestly Shan lauded the collaboration as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world justice delivery.

Under the academic leadership of Dean, Alliance School of Law, Dr V Shyam Kishore, the Legal Services Clinic has adopted villages and undertaken initiatives focused on marginalised and underserved communities.

These initiatives include regular village-level legal camps, dissemination of rights-based information, and facilitation of access to legal remedies.

The Legal Services Clinic initiatives are being actively led by Dr Bhavana Chandran, Prof S Sivamanithan, and Prof Sofiul Ahmed who have been working to increase awareness at the grassroots via legal awareness drives, and legal assistance programmes.
