An international conference on the theme, Advancing Ocean Governance for a Sustainable Future: The Role of International Law is being held on March 28-29, 2025.
It is being jointly organised by the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), the Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), and the South Asia International Economic Law Network (SAIELN).
The event will bring together experts, policymakers, academicians, industry participants, and researchers to explore the legal, economic, and environmental aspects of ocean governance and the blue economy.
The conference will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions and paper presentations that focus on marine sustainability.
Technical sessions will highlight advances made in fisheries law, blue economy and sustainability, marine science, and governance frameworks like the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The conference is aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration for innovative solutions in ocean governance for a sustainable future. It will address the legal, economic, and environmental dimensions of fisheries governance and management.
The conference will feature two tracks, namely the panel discussion track, and the paper presentation track.
Panel Discussion Track
This will feature panel discussions with experts on ocean governance and the blue economy and involve sharing diverse perspectives on the evolving landscape on such issues in today's global context.
Paper Presentation Track
Selected authors will be invited to present their research through a PowerPoint presentation.
Each author will be given a total of 10 minutes to present their paper, of which 5 minutes will be reserved for the presentation and the remaining 5 minutes will be for Q&A and feedback.
The themes to be dealt with during the conference include recent developments in international fisheries governance, including fisheries subsidies in WTO; the blue economy, sustainability, and conservation; and UNCLOS and marine sustainability.

NOTE: Conference attendees who are not presenting are also required to register through this link. Those submitting abstracts may register upon receiving acceptance.
Abstract Submission
Authors must submit an abstract of 500 words in a Word document accompanied by a cover letter. The cover letter should include the author(s)' name(s), designation, institution/ affiliation, manuscript title and contact details (email, phone, and address). Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to present their papers.
SAIELN will award scholarships of INR ₹3,000 each to five student presenters who are selected on the basis of the quality of their abstracts. Applicants seeking the scholarship will have to indicate their interest and justification in the Google Form to submit the abstract.
Abstract Guidelines
Abstracts must be submitted by February 28, 2025 (00:00 IST) at this Google Form. Acceptance will be notified to the presenters by March 10, 2025.
Co-authorship is allowed but limited to two authors.
